David has over 25 years of experience in the building trades as a furniture-maker, carpenter, general contractor, energy auditor and residential building designer. For the last 13 years he has been Principal with Element Design + Build, a Washington, DC-based residential design firm focusing on sustainable design. Two of Element’s recent projects have received LEED Platinum ratings. Throughout his professional life, David keeps coming back to the allure and challenge of building compact, efficient residential spaces.  David holds a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Michigan and a Master of Architecture from The University of Washington.
