Oct 2015 update: The Academy of Construction and Design recently moved from their past location at Cardozo High School near the Micro Showcase to their new skilled trades training facility across town in Deanwood.  Since this new location is far from the Micro Showcase lot, their tiny house just moved to the new campus to be finished up this winter.

——

Started in March 2015, Washington DC’s Academy of Construction and Design has been building a tiny house at the Micro Showcase.

The Academy is an accredited high school career and technical education program sponsored by the nonprofit DC Students Construction Trades Foundation. Academy students built the shell of the house in carpentry classes at school.  That structure is being moved and assembled here, so all exterior construction and interior finish work can be completed from Mar-May 2015.  Students will be directly involved in construction and will learn trade skills under the supervision of industry professionals.  This project is part of the Academy’s Build a House-Build a Future  construction education program.

Check out Elevation DC’s article ‘DC teens build a tiny house‘ and see students’ initial progress in this project video.

    Hi,
I was wondering if your organization builds tiny residential/mobile homes for the public yet.

Great Job. I love that someone will take the time out of their day to teach our children to be self sufficient and learning valuable skills that will help them to be successful young adults. Keep up the great work.
