Horse trailer arrives

February 11, 2015 Posted by Brian Houses, The Site, Utilities/City Code

Micro Showcase trailer

Originally a rather cool modern quonset project was planned to house tools and materials for the DC students tiny house build that will start in February. Alas, DCRA (DC zoning) was not inclined to allow a second, 336 ft2 small shed on a huge 5500ft2 alley lot, despite some earlier signs that this would be entirely possible. No matter, we’ll just find storage on wheels.

A car trailer? Lots of space, but rather boxy and unsightly.  A shipping container? Without wheels, still a potential zoning liability.  Driving through VA one day the vision struck: a vintage horse trailer.  So ‘lil Blue arrived Jan 30, sans horses, but plenty of room for materials and equipment, a pull down back ramp for easy access, and even a separate ‘tack room’ in front- usually used for saddle storage, it’s now the changing room for the hot tub, and adds a new commode for lot events. A small solar panel and battery system is hooked up and powers interior lights.  Some paint might be in order for the roof, but otherwise ready to go.  Getty’up builders!
