lot update (mid-may): shipping container arrives

With the DCRA permit now in hand, today the good folks at KK Containers were able to bring us a 20’x8′ shipping container down from Baltimore, freshly painted and all tricked out with a new custom installed side door.  This will serve as a combination garden shed and secure workshop/storage space as tiny house construction gets underway.  After pricing a variety of shed options, this one came in as the cheapest and most flexible- $150/month plus pickup/delivery charges, or $3700 to buy it outright (cheaper 20′ containers exist, but welding in the easy-entry side door seems to add around $1K).  For now we’re renting to cut down on startup costs, but might decide to purchase it, if we can’t contain ourselves…
